Spoiler warning: this guide may discuss puzzles and story details. Hints stay hidden until you choose to reveal them.
Tenebris Somnia is a retro pixel survival-horror adventure from Andres Borghi and Saibot Studios, published by New Blood Interactive. This walkthrough follows the critical path through Ivan's apartment building, the film school, the Aurifer forge, and all four Steam endings, including the Relicta branch and the New Game hidden routes.
Expect item combining, randomized puzzle answers, scarce healing, and bosses that punish button-mashing. Treat combat like turn-based duels: wait out an attack, step clear, then hit. Your health cap is four points; each Lavendoleum bottle restores one. The Steam store page for Tenebris Somnia is the official buy link if you still need the build.
Spoiler and content warning
This guide spoils puzzle methods, boss patterns, item routes, and every ending condition, including Relicta choices and New Game secrets. Title and summary stay light; open spoilers only when you are stuck. Content notes: body horror, violence, psychological distress, self-harm imagery during some encounters, and live-action gore.
Basics, saves, and random puzzles
- Old Book: codes and color sequences write themselves here. Reopen it from inventory instead of memorizing.
- Weapons: Wrench first; Iron Pipe (bar bathroom) has roughly double reach; Revolver and shotgun appear later with ammo in closets and star lockers.
- Studio lights: in statue arenas, break or shoot a bright light to clear every enemy on screen.
- Grabs: mash interact to break free or you can die quickly.
- Silver Bottle cost: filling it at three save points disables those checkpoints. Keep a film-school save before committing.
- Point of no return vibe: gather exploration collectibles before the hard Sanguis fight if you care about Stella Plena and related achievements.
Several mid-game puzzles randomize per save. Guides can teach the method, not a universal code: TV floor symbols, elevator color order, Caput Mortuum pitcher tones, fly statue tiles, cinematography poses, and poem-photograph matches all shift.
Floor 3: apartment opening
Ride the elevator to Floor 3, open apartment 6 with the Apartment Key, and start the scavenger loop that creates Auritsatio for the red-wax study seal.
After the study, leave the apartment and take the elevator to Floor 2. Check cabinets as you go; Lavendoleum and ammo hide in ordinary furniture and star-locked boxes.
Floor 2: batteries, poster, Obscuratus
Enter the right-side apartment. This floor unlocks the TV remote sequence, the blue triangular stone, the A.S. studio key, the cardboard poster, and the first named boss (guides call him Candlehead; the Steam wrench-only achievement names Obscuratus).
Floor 1: USB, projection room, green stone
Your next gate is Ivan's phone code for the projection room, which needs a USB cable from Caput Mortuum and an adapter from the dining-room stairs.
Floor 0: film school and color elevator
Floor -1 and Fumus
Third canister, photo lab, Vitria
This stretch forges purified water for the cursed film, develops a key photograph, and opens the Desiderium through Sanguis and Vitria. Manage saves carefully around the Silver Bottle.
Desiderium: chase and school remix
Forging Aurifer (four knives)
Aurifer is the golden knife that can kill otherwise invincible Relicta. The forge is a long chain: Auritsatio redux, poem photos, VHS fight, then Lapis Fictus to Melanosis to Viridis to Aurifer.
Endings 1 and 2: the Relicta fork
Steam lists four ending achievements. The first pair splits only after Aurifer: spare every Relicta ghost, or kill at least one with the knife. One forge save can hold both routes.
Hidden endings 3 and 4 (New Game)
VIVUS EX MORTIBUS and RENUNTIATIO unlock only after a profile has both main endings. Start a fresh game; progress does not carry over, but lobby extras appear.
Boss checklist
- Obscuratus / Candlehead: extinguish candles, punish short windows, dodge area slam.
- Vorax: shoot to red glow, exit before boom.
- Fumus: bait slam at range, avoid red floor circles with a loaded gun.
- Vitria: tentacle hits, break grabs, use mirror-world supplies and lights.
- Sanguis (beast chase): statue baits, floor blades, or the final giant blade.
- Carnito: clear the Desiderium theater fight for the Tin Key; separate achievements track no-hit and multi-kill rules.
- Lacuna / Hermes / Amy: see ending sections above.
Length and completion notes
A focused first clear often lands in the multi-hour range depending on combat comfort and how often random puzzles stall you. Seeing all four endings is efficient if you keep the Aurifer forge save for both Relicta branches, then use one short New Game for RENUNTIATIO and another for the Bible route. This article is a progression walkthrough, not a full achievement checklist; star lockers, Wrench Queen, and Exhaust Pipe deserve their own planning before Sanguis if you are hunting 100%.
