If you skipped Mouthwashing on Steam, tomorrow is the easy entry point. Publisher CRITICAL REFLEX and developer Wrong Organ are bringing the first-person psychological horror game to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox on PC on October 29, 2026 - and it lands day one in Xbox Game Pass.

That timing is not subtle. The console launch sits two days before Halloween, which is exactly the window where a short, nasty narrative horror game tends to find new players. Mouthwashing first launched on PC via Steam on September 26, 2024, and has since become one of the more talked-about indie horror titles of the past couple of years.

Where Mouthwashing launches on October 29

According to CRITICAL REFLEX's Xbox Wire announcement and reporting from Gematsu, the October 29 rollout covers:

  • PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
  • Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox on PC
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass on day one
  • Cloud and handheld access where those Game Pass plans support them

Microsoft's Game Pass Wave 2 post lists Mouthwashing for October 29 alongside Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, with play listed across cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld, and PC for Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass members. The Xbox store page currently lists the digital purchase at $12.99 for Xbox platforms.

Mouthwashing reaches major consoles on October 29, 2026.

What kind of horror is Mouthwashing?

Mouthwashing is a single-player, first-person game set aboard the Tulpar, a wrecked space freighter stuck in the empty reaches of space under a perpetual sunset. Five crew members are stranded with dwindling supplies, no realistic hope of rescue, and a lot of unresolved tension between them.

The pitch is less jump-scare haunted house and more psychological freefall. Steam and the publisher materials emphasize isolation, unreliable perception, and an unforgiving narrative: watch the crew weather starvation and each other, pay attention to your surroundings, and do not expect the game to hold your hand. Combat is not the point. Reading the ship - and the people stuck inside it - is.

Much of Mouthwashing is spent reading the freighter and its crew rather than fighting through it.

CRITICAL REFLEX says the PC version has sold more than 800,000 copies and picked up awards including Best Narrative and Players' Choice at the Horror Game Awards. Those figures come from the publisher; we have not independently audited sales, but they help explain why the console ports were such a high priority for ID@Xbox's October showcase.

Why play on console or Game Pass now

There are two different audiences for this launch, and October 29 serves both cleanly.

If you never played the Steam release, Game Pass removes the usual wait-and-see friction. You can finish Mouthwashing in a focused evening or two, which makes it a strong Halloween-week pick rather than another backlog item you swear you will get to later. PlayStation and Switch players who prefer controllers and living-room setups finally get a native version instead of relying on PC.

If you already finished it on Steam, the console build is mainly about access and convenience. CRITICAL REFLEX has not announced new story content for the ports. The same October 29 update does add Italian language support, according to the studio and publisher's anniversary messaging, but the headline for most players is simply: more platforms, same nightmare.

Physical edition and what to watch for

Gematsu reports that a physical edition is coming for PlayStation 5 and Switch through Fangamer. Sign-up details have been circulating around that physical release, but a final ship date and price for the boxed version were not confirmed in the materials we checked for this story.

Expect psychological pressure and unreliable scenes more than a traditional haunted-house loop.

One practical note for co-op Halloween plans: Mouthwashing is single-player. The five-person crew is the cast of the story, not a multiplayer lobby. Pass-the-controller nights work better as watch-along sessions than shared saves.
